Obituary of Alfonso Mendoza
Alfonso Mendoza, 92, was born and raised in Galveston, Texas and passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2023, in Pearland, Texas. Growing up he lived in a railroad car and worked as a paperboy. As a young adult he worked as a waiter at the historic Balinese Room in Galveston. Alfonso was extremely proud to have served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He served from 1951 – 1954. Alfonso met the love of his life, Betty Grohman, at the A La Carte restaurant in Westbury square. They were married in 1978 and spent 32 wonderful years together until Betty’s passing in 2013.
Alfonso and Betty loved traveling and were blessed to have visited many different countries. They also enjoyed going on cruises with family and friends. Alfonso loved listening to old music. He was an animal lover and he loved to cook for family and friends. His specialties were pork chops, fideo, and albondigus. Alfonso will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Alfonso is preceded in death by his parents Felipe and Soledad Mendoza; loving wife, Betty Mendoza; sons Grant Renault, Kenneth Renault; daughter-in-law Pricilla Renault; brothers Dr. Sam Mendoza, Ezekiel “Jake” Mendoza, Dr. Roger Mendoza; and sisters Connie Garza, and Maria “Tanna” Rodriquez. He is survived by his sons Kevin Renault and wife, Loretta, Keith Renault, Brian Renault; daughter Grace Clark; daughters-in-law Ann Renault, Jenny Renault; sister Teresa Vargas; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren, and a host of many other family and friends.
A visitation and Rosary will be held for Alfonso on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 West Broadway, Pearland, Texas. Visitation is scheduled from 5:30 – 8:00 pm. The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm. The funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am, on Thursday, March 9, at St. Helen’s Catholic Church, in Pearland, Texas, with Father Jim Courville officiating. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery, in Pearland, Texas.
