Obituary of Judy Kay Shannon

Please share a memory of Judy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Judy Kay Shannon, 77, beloved mother and respected educator, passed away Wednesday, October 26th, 2022.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Robbins, and Ella Randall Robbins; husband of 25 years, Steve O’Neal Shannon; and son, Ryan Joseph Shannon.  Left to cherish Judy’s memory are her sons, Steve Shannon Jr., his wife Cynthia, Richard Shannon, wife Dusty, and John Shannon; daughter, Laura Milam and her husband Matthew; brothers, Jim Robbins and his wife Martha, John Robbins, wife Marilyn, Robert Robbins, and wife Ruth; nine grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.

Affectionately known as “Grandma Shannon” to her family, Judy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and educator.  She was always fair and loving, and willing to help and mentor others anytime she had the opportunity.  Judy loved being a mother and relished every moment of raising her children and grandchildren.  Her family was truly her pride and joy.  Judy also devoted her life to education. She worked for 22 years with the Pasadena Independent School District as a Teacher and Assistant Principal.  Judy frequently mentored young teachers to ensure they would have a successful start to their careers.  She was compassionate and understanding as she encouraged many with challenges to find the right path in their career and life.  She left behind a legacy of educators, including three in the family and two who still work in PISD.  Judy was an active supporter of John as an athlete in the Special Olympics as well as many of his friends, providing transportation and encouragement to those in need.

Judy was also a woman of great faith. She loved the Lord and enjoyed staying active in her Church.  Judy enjoyed putting her strong organizational skills to use for Church functions.  Her children remember fondly that Ephesians 4:29, “Let no unwholesome talk come out of your mouths” was her favorite passage of scripture to quote to them when they needed it.

Judy leaves behind a legacy of Faith and Service which will live on in her family and the many teachers and students she mentored over the years.  She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In Lieu of flowers, Judy’s family asks that you consider donating to Hope Village in her honor.
